A lively evening of dancing, humor, and friendly competition was held on Saturday, April 18, as the Hanger Squares hosted a fundraising dance supporting the 2026 and 2028 National Square Dance Conventions. The 75th versus 77th Saturday Night Square-Off event brought together many area dancers for a spirited showcase featuring Billy “Box the Gnat” Grimsley, representing the 75th NSDC in Waco (2026), and Dave “Dive Thru” Vieira, representing the 77th NSDC in Daytona Beach (2028). Both callers delivered a crowd-pleasing dance that kept everyone on their feet.

75NSDC Chairs Claudia and Gary Lester, and 77NSDC Chairs Beth and Trent Hubbert, led the cheering for their respective champs.  At the end of the night, the competition proved too close to call. Paul LeBlanc, President of Brazos Bottom Belles and Beaus, summed up the evening perfectly: “It went down to the wire. After 10 fun-filled rounds of patter, exaggerations, and humor, the judges ruled a unanimous DRAW!” The result reflected not only the talent of both callers but also the enthusiastic spirit shared by everyone in attendance.

In addition to the entertainment, with both Grimsley and Vieira contributed their “purse” to support the 75th and 77th NSDC events. Special thanks go to the Hanger Squares for hosting such a memorable night, and congratulations to all who participated in making the event a resounding success.
