Sad News
We’ve learned that Jim Earles passed away last week. He was an active dancer and member of several HSRDC clubs. He certainly will be missed. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. We will share service information when available.
Countdown to 75th National Square Dance Convention
We’re only one week away from the 75th National Square Dance Convention in Waco, June 24-27! If would like to attend, but didn’t pre-register, you can still register at the door. Dancing is scheduled from 9am – 11pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You can try out clogging, contra, lines, rounds, and several different levels and types of square dancing. If you arrive early, dance at the Trail End Dances on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and at the Exhibition Dances on Wednesday morning.
Let’s show our Houston spirit by wearing HSRDC or Club attire (or attire that represents your Houston spirit) and name badge on Thursday night (June 25). Please share this with your club members to get the word out to everyone who plans to attend the convention. Remember that Friday’s attire is Red, White and Blue for the America 250 Celebration and Saturday is Texas attire for the Parade of States. Group photos are tentatively scheduled to be taken at 6:45pm on Thursday for all Houston area attendees, and 4:30pm on Saturday for all Texans. (Location TBD)
Many of our Houston area dancers are in the Sights and Sounds of Texas presentation on Saturday. There are education sessions if you’re interested in learning about club leadership or marketing or sewing square dance attire. Houston Area Camping Squares to Host NSDCA Camporee June 16-19
The Houston Area Camping Squares will welcome guests from across the U.S. to the 68th International National Square Dance Campers Association (NSDCA) Camporee, “Ridin’ High & Headin’ West,” June 16–19, 2026, at The Coushatte Recreation Ranch in Bellville, Texas. The camporee will feature square dancing, round dancing, line dancing, games, and workshops. Non-campers are welcome to join the dance parties each evening from 6:30 – 9pm. Dancers Needed for Caller Class on Saturday, June 20
HSRDC and the Houston Caller Association are co-hosting a second Caller Class with Vernon Jones on Saturday, June 20. Dancers are needed from 2-4pm to give the callers an opportunity to practice what they’ve learned during the class. This is FREE for dancers! Let’s have a nice-sized group show up to support our local callers! Stay and angel at the Mainstream Lessons from 4-5:30pm.

Nominations for 2027 Officers are due July 15, and we are seeking individuals to fill appointed positions as well. If you are interested in the Second Vice President position or another leadership role with HSRDC, please contact Carol and Charles Thornburg, Sally and Phil Henderson, Brenda and Jerry Fabian, Donna Bowen or Linda Reaves to express your interest. Officer elections will be held at the 3rd Quarter meeting on August 16.
LESSONS
Get a Headstart on the New Plus Calls
Fairbees are offering a 40-minute weekly workshop at 7pm for the new Plus calls. Tim Ploch’s First Tuesday Series is a great place to learn the new calls that have been added to the Plus list. Bluebonnet Squares and Tomball Promenaders will have lessons on the new plus calls later this year.
Round Dance Lessons
Stash Tosio is leading Cha-Cha and Rumba lessons on Sunday afternoons at Concordia Lutheran Church. Marilyn Waguespack is offering round dance lessons at Brazos Bottom Belles and Beaus on Tuesdays from 7-8pm.
