HSRDC 3rd Quarter Meeting and “Summer Nights” Dance Wrap-Up

The HSRDC 3rd Quarter Meeting and “Summer Nights” Dance was held Sunday, August 16, bringing together dancers representing all HSRDC clubs. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship, dancing, recognition, and celebration of the Houston square dance community.

The meeting included an appreciation letter to HSRDC from the chairs of the 75th National Square Dance Convention, recognition of clubs participating in the Steal the Banner Competition, the announcement of a new Visitation “BINGO” competition, and the election of HSRDC’s 2027 officers.

Congratulations to the 2027 HSRDC Officers:

  • Presidents: Sally and Phil Henderson
  • First Vice Presidents: Brenda and Jerry Fabian
  • Second Vice Presidents: Rikki and David Vaughan
  • Treasurer: Donna Bowen
  • Secretary: Linda Reaves

The newly elected District Directors are:

  • District 1: Charles & Twyla Woody — Bluebonnet Squares; Tomball Promenaders
  • District 2: Kathleen Palmer — Brazos Bottom Belles and Beaus; Fairbees
  • District 3: Penney Warren & Charles Zagara — Hey Lollies; Katy Prairie Promenaders; Texas Renegades
  • District 4: Karen Clawson — Tim’s Gems
  • District 5: Bob & Melody Purnell — Hanger Squares; Houston Area Camping Squares
  • District 6: Michele Russell — Woodland Stars

Guest caller Vernon Jones kept the dance floor moving with his smooth choreography, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to enjoy a great night of dancing. The 3rd Quarter dance is HSRDC’s annual donation dance. Donations received will help fund caller clinics, new dancer dances and workshops and marketing to promote square dancing to new people! This  funding will strengthen and expand square dancing opportunities throughout the Houston area .

Tribute to Jim Earles

The evening included a heartfelt tribute to Jim Earles, featuring elements from the HSRDC graduation ceremony and a photo display celebrating his contributions and memories within the square dance community. Several members of Jim’s family joined us for the evening and even had the opportunity to experience a little square dancing themselves—a special way to honor Jim and introduce his family to a part of the community he loved.

A drawing was held for dancers who registered for the 78th Annual HSRDC Houston Hoedown. Congratulations to our lucky winners of square dance T-shirts: Rikki and David Vaughan and Twyla and Charles Woody!

“Summer Nights” evening was a great reminder of what makes Houston square dancing so special—good friends, great dancing, and a whole lot of fun!
